What surfaces can I use these acrylic paints on, and do I need to prep them first?

Our acrylic paints work beautifully on a variety of surfaces, including canvas, wood, paper, fabric, glass, metal, and plastic. For best results, make sure your surface is clean and dry. On slick surfaces like glass or metal, lightly sanding or priming helps the paint adhere better. For fabric, consider using a fabric medium for added flexibility and washability.

What’s the difference between heavy body, soft body, and fluid acrylic paints in this collection?

Heavy body acrylics are thick and buttery—perfect for texture, impasto, or bold brush strokes. Soft body acrylics are smoother and creamier, great for blending and covering larger areas. Fluid acrylics are thin and pourable, ideal for detail work, pouring, or staining. Choose based on how much texture or fluidity you want for your artwork!

Are these acrylic paints safe and easy to clean up for beginners or kids?

Yes! Our acrylic paints are water-based and low in toxicity, making them a great choice for artists of all ages. Cleanup is easy—just use soap and water while the paint is still wet. We recommend protecting clothing and workspaces—acrylic paint dries fast and becomes water-resistant once dry.

Should I buy artist or student grade acrylic paint, and how do I choose the right one?

Artist grade acrylics offer the highest pigment concentration and color brilliance—ideal for professionals or when color intensity matters. Student grade paints are more affordable and slightly less vivid, perfect for practice, classwork, or beginners. Consider your project needs, budget, and whether you need maximum vibrancy or are just starting out.

How can I keep my acrylic paints fresh and get the best results when storing or using them?

To keep your acrylic paints in top shape, always reseal tubes or jars tightly after use and store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If paint dries on your palette, spritz it with a little water to keep it workable. Don’t let brushes sit in paint—rinse them with water promptly to avoid dried residue.

Acrylic Paint Benefits

Fast Drying Time
Go from one layer to the next in minutes, not days—ideal for artists who hate waiting and love momentum.
Versatile Medium
Use straight from the tube for thick impasto, thin with water or acrylic mediums for watercolor-like washes, or pour for fluid abstracts.
Surface Compatibility
Paint on canvas, wood, paper, fabric, glass, metal—even plastic—without lengthy prep or special primers.
Durable & Flexible
Once cured, acrylic forms a resilient film that resists cracking, yellowing, and water damage.
Low Toxicity & Easy Cleanup
Water-soluble when wet, acrylics require no harsh solvents; brushes rinse clean under the tap.

Acrylic Paint Types

Paint Type	Ideal For	Key Features
Heavy Body Acrylic	Texture work, palette knife art	Thick, buttery consistency; holds brushstrokes
Soft Body Acrylic	Detail work, smooth blends	Creamy flow; easier to mix and spread
Fluid Acrylic	Acrylic pouring, fine lines	Low viscosity; vibrant, transparent layers
Acrylic Ink	Calligraphy, illustration	Ultra-fluid; intense pigment load
Open Acrylic	Extended blending time	Slower drying formula; oil-like workability

Choosing Your Acrylics

Grade & Pigment Load
Artist-grade paints deliver richer, more lightfast pigments; student grades are more budget-friendly for practice and mixed-media layering.
Color Range
Start with a primary set (cyan, magenta, yellow, black, white) to mix countless hues, then add specialty colours (iridescent, fluorescent, metallic).
Medium Compatibility
Invest in gel, molding paste, and glazing mediums to extend workability, add texture, and manipulate finish (matte, satin, gloss).
Tube vs. Jar
Jars suit high-volume techniques like background washes or pouring; tubes preserve freshness for precision strokes and limited-edition pigments.
Packaging & Storage
Look for airtight, wide-mouth tubes or jars to prevent skinning; store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Bonus Tips

Build Layers Strategically
“Fat over lean”—apply richer, more flexible mixes over thinner washes to prevent cracking.
Use Retarder Medium
Slow down drying in hot, dry climates or on large canvases to maximize blending time.
Create Custom Textures
Mix in sand, pumice gel, or coarse pastes for impasto effects and sculptural details.
Clean Brushes Immediately
Dried acrylic is tough; rinse tools while paint is still wet to maintain bristle shape and longevity.
Seal Finished Work
Apply a varnish—matte, satin, or gloss—to unify sheen, protect against UV light, and repel dust.
